When a SCARA robot fits the task

A SCARA robot is designed for rapid movement in the horizontal plane with controlled vertical travel and rotation. That architecture can deliver short cycle times in a smaller work envelope than many articulated robots.

Typical applications include transferring small components between nests, loading trays, placing products into packaging, tending light assembly fixtures and moving parts between test or inspection stations. The best result depends on stable product presentation and a gripper designed for the component rather than the robot alone.

We assess the full moving payload, including gripper, brackets, cables and product. Reach must cover the pick and place locations with appropriate approach clearance; it is not enough for the nominal radius to touch both points. Acceleration, settling time and process dwell are also included when establishing a realistic production cycle.

One complete system, ready for your line

You receive one complete system covering product presentation, end-of-arm tooling, sensing, controls, safeguarding and operator access. The cell is proved against your real production task, not selected from a headline robot specification.

What determines success

What defines a reliable production cycle.

The robot is selected after the complete moving payload, work envelope, presentation and interfaces are understood.

Product presentation

Trays, bowl feeders, conveyors and magazines must deliver parts consistently enough for the required cycle.

Vertical stroke

Pick depth, stack height and tooling length determine the necessary Z-axis travel and clearances.

Tooling mass

The gripper, product and all moving hardware are included in payload and inertia calculations.

Process accuracy

Robot repeatability, fixture tolerance, part variation and sensing all contribute to final placement accuracy.

Integrated cell scope

Everything needed to make the robot work in production.

Your cell can include every element needed to achieve the required output and connect reliably with the rest of your line.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about scara pick-and-place robots.

Use these answers to compare options; your product, rate and production conditions determine the final recommendation.

What is a SCARA robot best used for?

SCARA robots are commonly used for fast planar pick-and-place, insertion, kitting, tray loading and light assembly where the required motion suits their cylindrical work envelope.

Is a SCARA faster than a six-axis robot?

For suitable short, repeatable planar movements a SCARA can often achieve a shorter cycle. The actual rate depends on travel distance, tooling, product stability and process dwell, so it must be assessed against the complete application.

Can a SCARA robot use machine vision?

Yes. Fixed or robot-mounted cameras can locate parts, check orientation and provide coordinates. Lighting and product contrast are engineered with the vision system.

Can one SCARA cell handle several products?

Yes, subject to the size and grip differences. Recipe selection, adjustable tooling, interchangeable grippers or automatic tool changing may be considered.
